Deviled Eggs: The Perfect Hor D’oevure
Deviled Eggs
Are you looking for the perfect introduction to a well planned meal? One that can be created in a few minutes and fill little bellies in a pinch? Well a perfect deviled egg will give you time to finish up the main course.
Eggs are one of the most versatile ingredients. Not only can you use them in baking and make more of an intricate meal, but you can also keep it really simple and scramble them with some veggies or make a frittata and it can still be a main course. No matter the weather, eggs can make a hearty nosh . I really don’t eat very much but my children do. Even still, I’m always looking for ways to maximize my protein intake and boiled eggs are easy to make in a pinch. Albeit affordable, boiled eggs can be redundant. Adding a few condiments can change a rather bland ingredient into a mouth watering snack.
Mix-Ins
Traditional mix ins for deviled eggs contain mayo, mustard, relish, salt and pepper. Really simple and standard pantry items. But if you want to up the ante, adding a little spice will truly wake up the senses. Sriracha, cayenne pepper, red chili flakes all can add a decent level of spice and depth to a simplistic snack.
Over the years I have hosted my fair share of gathering and holidays and in that time I have tried my hand at making large quantities of deviled eggs to satisfy my guests. The process of boiling several dozens of eggs never seems to go right for me. I remember one holiday where I had Darling Husband run to the store 3 separate times for dozens of eggs because I had either cooked them to long and they wouldn’t peel, or I hadn’t cooked them long enough and they were far to runny to make an appetizer with. Now I simply use the Instant Pot and create the perfect egg every time in far less time than it normally would have taken on the stove top.
The Perfect Egg
The 5-5-5- rule is an easy rule to remember. 5 minutes in the Instant pot with the desired amount of eggs. (really you can have 20 eggs and the rule would still apply). Add a cup of water to the bottom and set the timer for five minutes. Once the time is up let the instant pot naturally release for 5 minutes. Next add the eggs to a bowl of cold water and ice for 5 minutes then peel. You will have the perfect egg every single time!
Once you have the perfect eggs and perfect add ins, filling the eggs should be perfectly eye pleasing as well. The best way to fill the whites of the eggs is to use a plastic Ziploc bag. Grab a large cup and place the corner of a Ziploc bag and fill the plastic bag with the filling. If you so desire you can use a special frosting tip of your choice. Snip the end and squeeze in an even manner into the egg. About a tablespoon. Adding smoked paprika and dried parsley as garnish will add beautiful aesthetic to the final dish.
