American Staple
Peanut butter and jelly was always a special go to as a child as I’m sure that most can relate too. Not only was it a cheap option but it was fast. Most parents( myself included) think that children will surely cut off their fingers if they have to much autonomy over there meal prep. But not with the most common American staple. All you need is a jar of peanut butter , soft bread and a ( mostly safe) butter knife. We had all we needed to make a delectable meal, one that would satisfy to the core all made by our own hands.
As much as I was proud to make something with my own two hands, I always found the store bought bread to be rather stale and hard. Sure, you can easily swipe the peanut butter on the bread alongside the jam but at that point you could also do the same with a saltine. Why not enjoy soft bread made easily with just a few ingredients and a little time? Why not provide healthy options for yourself and anyone else you care for and for much less than the organic options you can find that are equally stale?
Memories
Just the smell of home made bread warms your home and ignites the senses especially for those who grew up with warm bread made with love. As I have mentioned before, I love to think about my future relationship with my children. I’d like to think that when they get older they will remember that I always showed them love in various ways but most importantly by filling up their little bellies. I pray that when they age and become young adults that we can rendezvous in the kitchen and cry, laugh, and share intimate moments over home made bread and find peace with a warm cup of tea.
One of my fonder memories is taking my older three to the Opera House where for the summer they would enjoy various styles of music and bring a homemade lunch. Every week I would be sure to bake bread, slather on a warm fresh made jam , and pack it for our various adventures. Even though years have gone by, my little darlings still remember the opera house, and their lunch that although simple, rivaled others with every soft bite.
